quick question....
Ok, let me start by saying I KNOW this has been talked about a Million times on here but apparently I don't know how to use the search thread right cause couldn't find it. I have a bone stock 91gt. The ONLY thing I have done is 4.10 gears, (its an auto), and it has a flow master cat back. I put a short belt on it to bypass the smog and bumped the timing up a bit. (14 degrees now). Going through a rough divorce so money is Tight....like 5-600 bucks extra tight. That in mind, new or used...what would you guys recommend as my next best bang for the buck upgrade? A few salvage yards have the 95-96 gt40 heads for @150 a pair. Not sure about intakes. Maybe headers....h pipe...Idk. I KNOW its not much. I'd love to buy some after market heads like some tfs' or something and a nice intake. But just can't. I had to sell off my short block I had bought to do a 408. So just wanna pull some more out of the 302 for now. So, please be kind! LOL. Thanks guys
Yeah, a few posts i had read before stated that the 95,96 and SOME 97 explorers had the 40s and then had the 40p's. Was told the 5&6s had 3 hash marks and if they had 4 they were the p's. If that's wrong, someone please correct me. I know when the mustang changed to mod motors if that's what you meant. But I'm quite certain that explorers and mountaineers did not change for a few years after. Am I right or no? Cause that would have sucked to get 4.6 heads if that's the case

Ok. Lol. So, next question is, how much will it wake up with bolting those on and an Intake? And which explorer intakes are the "imitation" cobras or whatever? Just considering going that route and a tranny cooler. My buddy has one for cheap.
Not as much as nitrous.
Pretty much all explorer intakes are imitation cobras. Even the aftermarket ones are kinda.. imitation. The real ones had individual runners on the plenum, instead of it all being a cast piece. Google cobra tubular intake and you will see both types.

Ahh, ok i see the difference. So would I get a noticable increase with the heads and intake or no? Any other ideas besides putting nitrous on it? not that I'm against it, just dont want to on this application.
