Default Identify This T5

What T5 is this? A local guy is selling it cheap rebuilt. I came across it in some classifieds and it really peaked my interest.

I asked the regular questions, who rebuilt it, miles on it prior, ect ect.

The reason i am on here is to explain the"what year is it?" question.

Owner said its possibly out of a 2004.. which caught me off guard. Didnt even know they came on 04's. But turns out the v6 had them.

So now to the question, how can i tell the year, either from a stamp on the t5 or from the photo?

And is the 2004 tranny going to fit in a fox? Is it a 2004 tranny? Where they stronger or weaker then our fox T5's?

Thanks!!

Mod- i guessed this was tech, everyone will learn some technical data, but if not feel free to move it.

tell him to give you the serial number off the side of the trans case.

You can bolt it to your mustang if it's just a standard t-5, but you'll likely have to change the bellhousing to bolt it to your non-modular engine. I'm not 100% on the bellhousing though.

That looks like a fox body bellhousing to me, I have one in my 67.

Well i hope it is, because this could be a sweet deal.

Im not sure if its pieced together though, he says it was rebuilt, and has the paperwork from the shop that did it, but his plan was to use it in a cobra.

So the bh may not match that tranny.

Best thing to do is what jojobanks recommended, get the serial number from the transmission case. That way you know for sure if it will be the right T5 to use.

its a fox T5, that clutch doesnt match the trans, and the red RTV on the top clearly shows that some jackass has been in there. Not a professional repair job.

Its the ID tag you want. The aluminum tag on the lower left case bolt. Just the 3 numbers after 1352, probably 169-208

Thanks adder, i called the guy today and said id pass.

His repair job was a tranny shop "going trough it" and making sure it was good enough for his "$70k cobra"

Nothing was replaced, and he doesn't know the original mileage. Plus when advertising it as a 2003 and its a fox tranny? PASS.

Thanks men.
