I need a title for my 93 Foxbody
I know this car isnt stolen I know the past 2 owners. 3yrs ago it was a 4cy and she was paying payments for it and the used car dealer ran there bills up and disapered. So my friend bought it and threw a 1968 429 and a C6 9" rear in it but ran out of money. So he went to me cause he knows I always have money and I bought it for $2500. But my problem is there is no title and I don't wanna go to the DMV cause there could be debt from the companys they own money to. So what do I do I wanna make it street legal in new jersey. Any help much appricated.

The title.. lol. Go there and see what they say.
Worst comes to worst buy a wrecked as fudge fox body and get the title... then swap vin plates. Hell you may get a bunch of parts not damaged in the wreck and end up better than you were before.
Car with no title = most of the time stolen. In your case its not... but I'm just saying what the DMV will think.

Can you get info on the car from the DMV. Like who is registered owner and if there is a lien recorded?
Then you'll know how the state sees the car and can make decisions based on facts.
You may only need a letter from RO saying they have no interest in the vehicle and then you have it clear. Or if you know them get duplicate title sent out and have them sign it over.
I had a title issue on a motorbike once and the call to the state was a huge help.

I'd be kind of leery of it.
If you think that no used car dealer would ever sell a stolen car you have other thoughts coming.
Especially if that dealer 'disapearred'.
Try the DMV as somebody else said, they don't/can't collect money for anything but the fees (taxes) they can collect..........

The big answer to your question is nope! Can't avoid the bmv, they can check into anything and they are quite picky. I don't know about there, but here there is such a thing as an abandonment title. I believe you have to explain what happened in a court and they can determine whether the car can be retitled or not. The person whom was last titled to the car can also get a duplicate title and sign it over which here runs about $20. Just be careful, if the guy who owned it before the guy you're getting it from is still registered to it, you may not want to have him sign it directly to you. If you skip that middle owner, its called a jumped title which is illegal, they like to keep all records of ownership probably to avoid discrepancy (which is something like lowering miles on a vehicle than what they are)
