any thoughts and opinions on a tremec 3550 tranny?

Well it's stronger than a stock T5, nearly as compatable if you're thinking of dropping one into your Fox. You would need a tremec bellhousing (because bolt pattern is different) and an AOD cross member. You can use the stock T5 crossmember but may have to grind a few spots down. The AOD crossmember on the other hand will let it slide in like butter.

Also forgot to mention a T5 shifter won't work, and it isn't as smooth rowing through gears.

yea because i bought my car with t 3550 in it, im just wondering if its a good aftermarket tranny or what power it will hold. compared to others like the tko's

Oh if it's already in the car, leave it. It is pretty stout. Stock rating is 350 ft-lb.
