engine modifications
i was looking in to getting my car faster and some more power .
anyone with experience . im looking at balenceing my stock bottom end will this allow me to rev higher safely?
im also looking at getting some heads to take advantage of the higher prms along with some valve train upgrades.
i talked to a engine building machine shop and he wanted to bore and stroke it along with some heads ..
if anything im not looking at getting a stroker kit at the moment id rather just bore it but would like to keep it a 302 if boring isnt needed. just some aftermarket pistons and balencing with heads is what with a goal of 400hp at the flwwheel so whats that at the wheels 350rwhp??

Stroke it or you wont reach your goal n/a! Even if you could retain the stock bore with a hone???? wth wouldnt you buy a bigger piston the kit would cost the same and you would be helping yourself out atleast a small amount if you were staying with the stock crank and rods!

400HP (flywheel) out of a 302 is pushing it. There are a few out there hitting the 400 mark, but for the most fall in around 350HP, which equates to 300rwhp through a T5 (15% loss for simplicities sake).
The only way N/A on stock displacement is a really, really well matched combo. A solid bottom end is part too.
Stroking to something larger would be the easiest option, and you won't have to spin the engine to hell and back, which provides for good longevity
Give this article a read, it'll shed some light, http://www.fiveohinfo.com/performanc...x50builds.html

my friend says he makes 450-500hp with a 306 and can rev to 10-12k rpm(with stock heads)
i heard something about destroking the 302 to get it rev higher anyone hear of this?
i was thinking of stroking it ¬ boring it, something like a 343 stroker(347 with stock bore)i can easily just get the kit and drop it in(besides needing slight machine work )
The shop i talked to were talking about making it a 331.
building this engine right has been getting to me if it works my nerves enough im going to sell the fox or swap the motor and trans to a nissan or something..
if i keep it i want it to be a 10 second car and im already planning on a custom wide body (my rear quaters a a bit messed up and i know my way around fiberglass so i was just going to cut out the select sections and making fiberglass . nothing to fancy just 2-3 inches on each side.but thats another story .. getting this thing a bit faster is my focus now. Im thinking of getting some twisted wedge heads with some serious valve springs. and a nice balance on the stock bottom

To reach your goal the easy, cheap way a 347 and some decent heads are what you need.
I had a 400HP 306 and I'm here to tell you it's not a cheap deal at all.
I built a stroker motor and now I go faster than before and it was way cheaper to build and also easy on parts.
Stroke it to 347 and use heads that have at least a 185cc intake port........

well i think the block isnt stock . being told its a 10 second car vert .
. im done with bool ons i want brute motor power if issues raise about ill be looking at a 351/408.(ultimately wanting a 427 someone told me that the bore dose not leave much left to the block so it seems to be on hold )
right now i want the little 302/306 that could. if i just go out and get a 331 (or keeping stock bore 327) 29 cubes dosent seem like it would be much worth the effort . the guy did not tell me how much power i should be expecting but i know pushing 450 at the flywheel would be pushing it on a stock block . i just told him i want to rev to 7 k safely may even 8k if i wanted. he said 331 stroker and afr heads some valve train upgrades for a solid motor . he said nothing about a new block so all in the stock block . is it just too much for the block to rev to/ past 7k just a bit ?
im all confused now.
