Camshafts do act different as cubic in increases! I have never seen anything performance wise live a long life on the street!
But most of the solid apps around here arent meant for the street anyway!

I know of 2 different engines one ford one chevy that the owners had more pocket than brains they drove them into the city and both dropped vlvs at a red light both running solid cams!

It is fact that soild cams are harder on vlv springs thus causing streetability issues... or is it not?

I've run either flat tappet solids or solid rollers for nearly 40 years.
Those folks dropping valves at stop lights must have made a mistake during the engine assembly process.
Many solid lifter engines from the factory can run for 100,000+ miles without any sercice problems.

If you have streetability issues on a solid, 1 you either have the wrong components installed and or set up error or 2 a cam so wild it lurches at stop lights...lol, I have various friends with TLSR solids and you'd never know it on the street as well as a few with complete solids on the street and no issues, but they have paid tons of attention to detail and run the right springs on billet cores.

Well they are up in lifts like upwards of .680, and there 40-50k engines lol from places like central florida motorsports, and Gene Fulton engines!

I doubt they miss the minor details! Low powered anything can make it 200k miles that isnt what im talking about!

Speaking of billet cores, I was looking through FlowTech's custom cams. There's a basic kit and a complete kit. Looks like the only difference is a timing set and lifters. I want to use my lifters since they're compatible with the standard base circle and the full kit comes with Morel lifters. Would the basic kit suffice? The cam is stated to be made from a billet core, and I don't see any kits with the "austemper" stuff. I'm growing to like the idea of the LSx valve train, and I would think I could recoup some dollars and sell the Trickflow valve train that I have currently.

you should be fine with the lifters but ask ED to be sure, believe me the lsx stuff works, , you'll be suprised, it's half the size/weight of your typical big dual spring kits , yet very durable. I sold all my stock stuff that came on my afr heads when I had such so I got back some dough in the end. For the timing set I used a torrington bearing set up
