Default nitrous tuning question

So here's a couple questions for yall, I might lose you but here it goes. Currently I have a sct tuner on my 89 5.0. I have an economy, street, and then a race tune also I still have my stock tune. If I retarded the timing for nitrous while on my stock tune will it stay that way, instead of sending it off to get a nitrous tune? Would my car still run the same while when I switch to my other tunes?

You have a chip, not a tuner. Probably from American Muscle... I say that because they are one of the only places that manages to get people to believe the bull**** of a "street", "race", and "economy" tune.

If this is the case, I recommend you take it out completely.

Your timing will stay retarded all the time. this will result in higher EGT's, worse gas mileage, and poor part throttle performance. If you want to run nirtous, you should get a tune specifically for it. And I don't mean sending the chip back to have another BS bama tune done.

Those guys are clowns. I re-tune their stuff all the time... when people realize they were screwed over.

I understand that they aren't the best but I needed something a little cheaper so I can save up to build my car and then get a real tune for it

There is nothing cheap about tuning nitrous. Do it right and your engine will thank you and probably wont blow up.

Problem is, in the long run, you cost yourself MORE money.

Here's how to do it on the cheap. Buy a timing light and retard timing 4 degrees and get one step colder plugs. The car is probably going to idle like crap and you'll lose a little performance when your not spraying. Good Luck. Nitrous kits aren't cheap. Do you have a kit?

if it's a wet kit, there really isn't much tuning needed for only a 100 shot..........they really don't even suggest 1 step colder on the plug either for a 100 shot........I've run as much as 36 total degrees advance on a 100 shot on my 347, but then again I usually have had race gas in it mixed with 93 octane.......for a 100 shot maybe run a base timing of 8-10 degrees = set base with spout out then reinstall it. A 100 shot really isn't much and requires minimal tuning.....if it's a dry kit, may want to do one step colder on the plug and then retard timing as stated.
