Default High Performance Distrubtor

I have a 1991 mustang 5.0 and everything's stock. I was thinking about getting a high performance distrubtor and wanted to know will it really help increase performance and If so I don' know which one to get....thanks.

mdj89, on a "stock" engine I don't think you will be able to notice a "power increase", but there will be a "efficiency increase" that could be noticed ie. Little better fuel mileage, engine runs smoother, etc. As far as the "high performance" distributor goes, I have always relied on MSD products, with no complaints.

Unfortunately, MSD isnt putting out the quality parts theyve always been known for.Their distributors are hit & mis.Their housing, shaft, sealed bearing and gears are top notch, but their pip sensors & tfi modules are cheap and have been known to go out in a few months time.Does every distributor do this that goes out their door,No,but alot due.If you could combine the MSD hard parts with a Ford Motorcraft pip & tfi module, you'd have a nice distributor. If your stock distributor doesnt have alot of play in it,indicating the bushing and/or shaft arent worn excessively, I feel youre better off replacing the pip & tfi module in your distributor and running it.Unfortunately, the pip is normally the main part that goes out and most prefer buying another distributor rather than replacing the pip.
