Default Talk to me about my rear end? '12 GT Convertible Auto with 3.15 LS

Picked up a '12 GT Convertible Auto for the wife and I... (Gasp, it has an Auto, but the wife drives it some times).

Specs: Black/brick red & cashmere, 401A premium, comfor pack, rear camera, machined 19" alloys, security/HID

It has the 3.15 rear end (standard) with limited slip.

Anyways, the wife says I can do some light mods (need to keep it driveable, streetable, etc.).

On the way...

Steeda CAI and Tune
Axle back exhaust

Having come from the British mid-engined sports car world, I'm a total noob to the American musclecar scene! So assume I know NOTHING about axle ratios, auto versus manual, etc.

Keep in mind this is NOT a track monster... just a souped up DD and weekend get-away car (and the wife needs to be able to drive it too!)

I'm not concerned about gas mileage as much (would like to retain 20+mpg).

Questions:
  1. So what are my options for a little more oomph from the rear end?
  2. 3.73?
  3. Would th 4.10 be too much?
  4. Are the ring/pinion kits the same for Auto versus Manual?

Thanks for your time...

I have 3:55's in my manual.....nice for daily driving as the mpg's are not bad, still good punch for playing. I would say 4:10 will be hard on daily driving mpg, but if you play at every stop light.....might be ok.

I'm not familiar with the auto's gear ratios, but I think I remember seeing somebody in another thread say that first gear in the auto is higher than the manual. So for off the line acceleration, you're not as bad off as it would seem.

And yes, the ring/pinion gears are the same for both auto and manual.

I know this is for a 2011.. Check out how much lower the first is on the auto vs the standard

I am in the same boat as you with the automatic.. I had to buy a car the wife can drive We haven't had it a week and she has dinged it twice. The only cure for a woman driving, is to drive em everywhere... I must admit I enjoy the drive of the auto... I have to shift my truck... Last time I got stuck in big traffic it felt like my left leg was ready to fall off..

I don't know if I would go to 4:10 gearing in a car used for daily driving.. Only someone who has done it would know for sure, but I would think it would be a screaming demon on the highway.. That would make road trips a pain
