Not going to argue anything about driving on a limp motor at all, that would be bad.. but if it is driveable, drive it to clear the logging info of the other tune; and no, they cannot tell the difference.

As of now the dealer cannot tell once a drive cycle is completed. Ford is requesting that the PCM be sent to them because they can tell. This copperhead pcm records any reset permanently.

+1 to what Rob72 says, that is why they have that TSB out that says to send the PCM to Ford before doing warranty work.

True but if I have a extra PCM (not sure how hard it is to get one) I can just swap the non tuned one in prior to going in for warrenty work?

Something like this "Tell dealer I fried my PCM or it got stolen, they install a new one. I go home put in the old one and add the tune. If i need to go in for warranty work related to power train I take the old one out and swap in the one they installed" Seems easy but not sure how easy to accomplish, the tricky part is getting the second PCM.

Just sounds dirty and underhanded, if your mods caused the engine to break you should have to pay for it, ford shouldn't be out the $4,000-$8,000. They can't deny warranty from damage not caused by mods (although sometimes they'll try)

Possibly dirty but how many times have they pulled a similar stunt on the consumer.
