I've had mine up to about 130 on the hwy in 5th and still pulling. How often do you REALLY see anything over that, even on a race track? I ran 12.959 at 110.9mph on my FOURTH run in this car on a crappy track and minimal traction. Car had 700 miles on it. ALL STOCK! 3.73's are the way to go. Hands down. And, I could be wrong, but I THINK the auto is only available w/ 3.15's or 3.31's.
He is in NJ, having a high ratio will compound traction problems in bad weather. Course they already have traction problems in good weather and low gearing.
Pick your gearing based on what you want to do (1/4 mile, DD, track, autox).

I had 3.31s when I started with my 11 GT. I had a buddy with 3.55s in his 11 GT. Both were fast, but he could get me by a decent margin. I swapped mine out to 3.73s and blew him away. I love the 3.73s and say get them or 4.10s ... I went 176 mph with 3.73s with 2500 rpms left, so uh yeah, you dont need the 3.31s or 3.55s. Get the 3.73s!

I had 3.73s in Colorado and Montana... These cars have enough power to spin no matter where you live and what temperature it is... the only option you stated that would really be different is a DD and even with 3.73s my highway mileage didnt really change much at all, and my city mpgs went up!

If you are into the performance, then the 3.73s no doubt. Reduce quarter mile by probably about 3 tenths (3 car lengths) compared to the 3.31s. If you are concerned with fuel economy get the 3.31s.. probably get ~2mpg better than if you had the 3.73s.

I have 4.10s in my Camaro and I'm getting 3.73s in my GT (on order).

Look at this, a guy who truly does not discriminate between the big three, camaro, challenger and now a mustang. I guess you might not be able to offer an opinion on the new camaro, but what are your favorite characteristics of the three options?

It is the equivalent of a 12.7% increase in hp/torque across the entire rpm range (50 ft lbs and 52 hp at peak numbers). Downside is shifting at lower speeds, mpg, and of course top speed.
That is a major power increase, thanks for the reply and information!

Incorrect info here. There is no gear option with an automatic, they only come with 3.15's.

From the replies I have gotten, I will have to agree with you. I'm not much concerned with the fuel efficiency as I am with the performance the 3.73's will offer, it is a Mustang after all. If I wanted fuel efficiency, I would buy, well something not nearly as fun

Thank you, it did clear up my misconception...appreciate it
