Of the above screwy answers I gave, tradition is closest to the truth. I try always to get the factory oil and possible metal shavings or other manufacturing debris out of the engine somewhere between the first 500 and 1000 miles. I know, I know some guys never heard of this rediculous waste of good lube, some have but want to get their digs in anyhow and there's a handful of guys like me who take the advice of others who's opinion they respect and take no chances with their engines and do whatever they think necessary to break them in correctly and protect them as they see fit. For sure the practice of changing the oil out early or more frequently does zero harm to a good engine.
