Noob Tune Question

Noob Tune Question
So I've read on a few posts that utilizing an SCT, DiabloSport or other tuner may void factory warranty on the 5.0 engine... Is this true for any tune, even if it is a custom dyno tune and not a mail order or canned tune?
Thanks.
Thanks.

If the "tune' resides on the PCM when you take her in for service,
and they deem it was the cause of the damage, its a no warranty problem.
There are exceptions for OEMs like Saleen and Roush calibrations.
They do their own warranty service, not Ford.

It really is quite simple. Ford warranties the car that Ford built. When you change the tune on the car, then that is no longer the car that Ford built.
Would you expect Ford to warranty the radio if you change to an aftermarket one? The car warranty is still intact though. Same thing when you put an aftermarket tune on the car; if the tune causes a problem, that problem isn't the fault of Ford.
The "voiding the warranty" is somewhat of a misnomer. The warranty won't be honored if your modification causes the problem. I took my 2006 in with what turned out to be a bad head gasket, they knew that the car had tune on it but it wasn't an issue because the tune wasn't the cause of the problem.

Some dealership service departments are dickwads and will intimidate you into thinking you've voided your warranty. As stated above, if the damage was DUE TO THE TUNE, then yes, they can void that PORTION of your warranty. It really all depends if you wear panties are have a set of *****.

You can take a look at the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
Just because you install an aftermarket part or tune ... it won't automatically void your warranty. An issue would have to develop and an investigation would have to take place by Ford Motor Company to determine what caused the issue.
In short ... when you tune with Steeda ... you have nothing to worry about. We have had 0 issues regarding warranty claims when our tune has been installed on a consumers car. The same tunes we write for our customers are the same tunes we write for our serialized vehicles sold at Ford Dealerships.
Let me know if I can help assist you with a tune ... you can reach me at tim@steeda.com. Our tunes are safe, reliable and powerful ... you will be very happy with Steeda.
