I was wondering if someone could give me some advice about fuel pumps. I took my stang in for a test and the fuel pump ended up being bad. It was running at 15psi instead of 38psi. real ****ty. I really don't feel like paying $300 for a STOCK fuel pump. This just gives me an excuse to buy a performance one. I would like some recommendations on some aftermarket fuel pumps. here is one i was looking at, do i need to buy any other parts to make this work?

You have a 98, which means you have the most clusterfvcked fuel setup Ford has produced. You'll know what I mean when you dig in there.

A focus pump will drop right in, as well as the Aviator pump. The Aviator pump will flow enough to support ~450rwhp in the future and is rather cheap (ie. ~$170)

A walbro or BBK pump like above will need the bucket modified to fit in the 98 model year only.

However, call Randy Stinchcomb at Liberty Ford (ph # 410-655-2000 ext is 5618) and he'll set you up at a better price.

The focus pump will work too, and is about half the cost. However, it's generally done at ~360-390rwhp.

 

I think i'm going to order the focus fuel pump right now! thanks man...really appreciate it. need to get the stang up and running again. No fun walking to school.

I suggest you buy it from Randy. He has the best prices on factory Ford parts, and you will get it VERY fast through shipping.

 

The above "Gerotor' pumps will not last very long as the 98 pump is a return style but not like the 86-97 gerotor as it's a turbine like the returnless style 99+ that it has a varied voltage that will kill a gerotor pump. Your best bet is to keep the stocker and add an inline pump if going forced induction. If you modify the basket on a 98 tank you will cause fuel starvation below a half tank which will cause a lean condition and you'll be sweeping the streets if you get my drift. When I went with F/I I got a tank, regulator, and filler neck from a 97 and I'm good to go!

 

ugh 98 fuel system FTL i just got a walbro 255/hr for $109 shipped but its only for 96-97 sorry to hear about yer problem

 

^ But don't you have the short basket? The W255 requires a tall basket. I have the same pump and it will take me to 600hp if tuned correctly.
