Need to splice into mach 460 amp with RCA plugs
I got a cheap aftermarket deck that has a set of RCA outputs to replace my broken mach 460 setup.
It has no speaker wires on it, only the two RCA outs (red and white) This should mean I do not have to buy that harness with the gain adjuster....I hope.
I bought the radio harness to change the deck. It came with two plugs. Only one fits and that is the "power" one. The other looks like speaker leads which does not have a matching side on the car. I am guessing it is for use if mach 460 is not on the car.
I want to use the pre-amp outputs (RCA) on the deck to splice into the factory amp that sits under the factory CD player. Hopefully this is going to allow me to use the exisiting speakers and amps until I am able to afford to do more with it, eventually replacing the whole system. Right now, I just need some music in my car.
I want to use RCA plugs, cut one end off and splice into the amp.
I am not real sure how to do this splice though. Am I better off trying to go straight into the amp without splicing into a pre-exisitng harness?
Will this work?
I have a 95 GT conv.
Thank you

its not worth it. i tried arguing with everyone that i didnt need to redo my whole system once i got a new headunit. But as soon as i put in the pioneer H.U. i blew out a rear speaker and each time u turn the speakers on u get an annoying pop. your better off gutting out the stock speakers and just buying a nice new set of speakers. Dont get me wrong the mach 460 system is nice but a pain in the @ss to work on.
I discovered that there is a premium sound wiring harness for the mustang that I did not know about. It has the additional plug receptacles for hooking up to the amp.
This should make it a bit easier to get my rca wires into the amp since now I can just plug it straight into the factory speaker harness.
I do eventually want to swap everything out and do it myself, but right now the money is going to other things in my car that I am more anxious to get
Others have said they have swapped without problems, but no one has yet to say how they did it that I can find. The general consensus seems to be to use RCA outputs or the adapter that basically adjust the speakers signal to match those of a RCA out.
If I make it work, I will be sure to do a post about how it was done.

I'm curious if anyone on here knows about the easy 460 bypass hrns in the (pass side)consol of the mustang? I am new here but always amazed how few people know about it.
I don't know of a link, I have done it many times. On the back of the deck, there is the standard power hrns(grey rectangular), and of course the premium sound small square one. Attached to the inside of the center consol on the passenger side, there is a standard ford speaker hrns(black rectangular). If you unplug it, one side goes to the amp, the other side goes to the speakers. If you buy a regular ford harnes(black and grey rectangular hrns's), they will plug right in and you will bypass the amps. you will need a seperate small amp for the sub, or just add a better sub/amp combo. I know that they did this on the fox's at least till 96-97 ish, probably after that but I have not worked on many mustangs since moving to arizona... Its all SUV's and and imports. I would love to post pics and will do so when I get my '94 out here, but that is not till june at the soonest...

This may be what he is talking about. I have not bought it, so not sure.
The catalog syas that this is required for 1994-1998 models with premium sound.
So far I have gotten no popping sounds. I have lost some of the bass, but everything else seems to be running fine. The highs are amazingly clear with the stock speakers. Add a subwoofer and this should be a pretty decent sounding system.
I do plan on redoing it with different speakers in the end, but this way allows me to upgrade one part at a time.
I am curious about this bypass harness. If you bypass the amps wouldn't you still run into the same problem with the speakers being a different rating then most decks are designed for? Either way, I can see how this would be much more convenient to use then having to rerun the speaker wire through the doors if you did buy an aftermarket amp and speakers.
