Mach 460 + HU + Amp + Sub
I plan on adding a new HU amp and subwoofer to my Mach 460 sound system. I already know that I need a special connector to allow the mach system to work with a new head unit.
I was planning on just doing HU + that adapter first and then waiting a bit until I get the amp/sub for it.
I heard that the best way to keep the speakers for the mach460 and have them still sound good is to get a HU with a built-in crossover with high and low pass filter.
The Pioneer Premier 860MP HU (here) has this type of crossover built in.
So what it is basically doing is turning off the bass to all my speakers so it allows subwoofer to play the bass only, correct?
Do you think this is the best way to add subs to a mach460 without changing out the entire system? I really do not want to change out the mach speakers. I think they are just fine and would sound great if they didn't play bass and I added a subwoofer.
Plus I really need Aux Input for my mp3 player.
Edit:
I have a Vert if this makes any difference in sound

yea i want to adjust the bass so that my stock speakers dont play the frequency that my sub plays. this is why I need a crossover built into the headunit.
Im just not sure if I need a 2-way or a 3-way crossover.
Also im confused about the wiring harness to hook up the mach460 to a new headunit. I have researched this and supposidly i need this adapter
http://www.audio-discounters.com/70-5511.html
This will mean that the amps in there now will continue to work and still play all the speakers in there right? I have a 2000 GT Convertible.
I have read the guide on replacing the headunit on a 2001 w/mach 460. Anybody know if a 2000 is the same as the 2001? It says I need both high and low pass crossover on the headunit. What is the difference in the 3-way vs 2-way crossover?

Surprisingly enough there is two sides to the definition of crossover types.
In most all cases both in Pro audio and car audio crossovers are defined as below.
2-way = High pass output and low pass output
3-way = High pass output, band pass output (midrange), and low pass output.
I have actually heard of a 3-way being refered to as a crossover with front, rear, and bass outputs.
Jensen used to refer to this set up as 3-way back in the early 90's.
You want a head unit that has a built in 2-way crossover that makes the front and rear outputs high pass and then has a separate sub out.

i have searched, nothing with the 2000 Mach460 sound system
The 2001 mach system is different. It is double din. Mine is 2x 1 din so I can only assume the wiring is different, which is why I made my own thread. If the wiring is the same as the 2001 in the 2000 then please correct me, that is all I am looking for.
the changing headunit guide on stangnet is for a 2001 mustang. It also doesn't specify needing a 2-way or 3-way crossover but 2-way crossover is the most popular, so I can only assume that. Purpose of me coming here is to talk about the experiences of other's in their quest for a new HU on the mach460 system and make sure I do everything correct the first time around. I would prefer not to **** anything up.
The closest post I found to one of my questions is about the '99 Mach460 system w/ metra harness and new HU and it being too loud.
