head unit install trouble

i have a panasonic cd player i am trying to install in my 89 5.0 with premium sound. i am havin trouble figuring out what wires to hook up. i connected the yellow and red wires and grounded it and got no power. i know the cd player works because it came out of my friends car. does anyone have any advice or a link that will help me with the install? thanks.

Crutchfield and others sell amp bypass kits that just pug in and match to your headunit. So if your headunit is decent you can just use the harnesses and have no problems.

i just want to hardwire it. ive already tried a bypass kit, and it didnt work.
