re-placing the stock sterio system!
I dont know what year car you have but most of them will have two holes in the trim ring on eather side. There is a special fork tool that you insert and spread to release the radio. You can buy these many places. Some car stereo departments will even pop them out for you no charge. You shouldnt need to take anything apart unless its like 87 ish or older.
you can get a tool from any stereo shop or just use 4 nails. Put a nail in each hole until it bottoms, then push the pair of nails on the left & the pair on the right outward from each other to release the locking mechanism. While holding them out, pull the unit towards you.

If you use nails make sure you understand the mechanics. Do not bottom them out, you will end up against the cassing and bend the tabs so that you cannot get it out unelss you take the dash out.
