Can a 5speed car use a remote start
I saw the post on remote starters and alarms that was just posted up in this section. I did not want to hijack his post so here is my own with my question. I have a 2001 GT 5speed. Can a remote starter be added to my car? Thanks.
Yes, but it's terribleujnsafe. You can slice the clutch wiring and hook it up.
1. It's illegal.
2. If you turn your car on with the emergency brake accidently off, what do you think will happen?
3. If your on a hill with your brake on and turn it on and you happen to roll into another car...good luck explaining that one.

Might want to check you check your facts first...
Compustar.com has remote starts that work with Manual transmissions. They use a reservation mode to make sure the car is in neutral. While sitting in the car, engine running, pull the emergency brake, and remove your foot from the brake. Open the door, get out, close door. Engine shuts down after 10-30 seconds, and car is now ready to start. Obviously it is impossible for your car to be in gear, engine running, foot off break, so the method is fairly safe.
It is not illegal by the way, although you have to find a reputable dealer that sells compustar alarms. I believe Autopage also sells manual trans remote starts. You will not however find any Directed electronics brand remote start that works with a manual (Viper, clifford, python, etc.)

It's not illegal to have on a car, it's illegal for a certified business to install it onto a car. I have it on my car, never really use it that much but to get the features I wanted I had to get an alarm that had remote start and when the installer put it in, he asked if I wanted it hooked up too and I said sure why not. I assume your having it installed, find a guy that works at Best Buy or any other place that installs find the guy that drives the ****tiest car and offer him $75 to install the system they'll probably do it. Otherwise im not sure on this but this situation may be the same situation as having too dark of tint installed, maybe you just need to sign a waiver. Check with shops in your area.
No i can assure you that it is legal. I am a mobile electronics installer and i do this sort of thing all the time. There are several different ways to do it. there are certain bypasses you can buy so when the car is left in gear it will either A not start or B will no lunge forward. Or if you are a cheap bastard like me and you know what you are doing, you can simply tap the tire and either ground it or put 12 volts to it. (Do not attempt unless you know what you are doing! or unless you are MECP certified. I am not responsible for people being stupid and trying to do something themselves.)
