A capacitor does help. It depends on how big a capacitor vs the sub and amp hooked up to it. It has helped me in my case so I have proof they work.

A cap will help somewhat, but not enough to notice, if you want to get the best results you can get a new battery (optima for example) and a cap....

I would not go as far as to call them useless or a back up battery. A cap will slightly help the dips in voltage that an amp will create, it will not how ever help to supply the current that the amp needs to make more power. Amps are driven by current, not voltage, and a cap cannot supply current....

A capacitor is just a backup battery. When the bass hits really hard it requires a little more power. If you have a capacitor the extra power is taken from there. A capacitor is not like having a whole other battery in your car it simply stores a little bit of power. A capacitor mainly functions to keep your headlights from dimming while stopped at a light or similar condition. A capacitor is only necessary if you have a huge system. I have two 1 farad capacitors. One for each amp and each amp pushes around 900W and I really do not need them but they are digital and are more for show.
errrkkk...wrong answer

A cap is useless, and does not help dimming with your headlights. Don't feed people false information. A capacitator is garbage. A batcap is where it's at.
