Default importance of wire guage

My 8 guage wiring is capable of 550 watts and my amp is 600 how much louder would my subs seem if i had 4 guage wire? And how important is it for me to have 4 guage, would it cause any problems with me doing what i am doing?

The subs will not be louder.
The 4 guage will have more current carrying capacity.
You will be fine with your current setup however, if you plan on adding another amp later on then upgrade to 4 guage.

If the amp requires 4 gauge then that is what you need to run. It is important that the amp get the proper amount of voltage so that it does not destroy the amp. If it struggles to get the power it needs it can cause problems.

It also depends on how long your run is. The longer you go, the bigger the wire needs to be. Personally I'd run 4-guage if that's a 600W RMS amp. It never hurts to have bigger wire and it doesn't cost much more.
