Default rear deck replacement speakers

My audio knowledge is somewhat limited, but I'm trying to expand my horizons a bit.

I'm upgrading the sound system (partially in preparation for a carputer) in my '06 GT, and the first thing I tried to do is replace the rear deck speakers. Thinking I didn't need much midrange back there, I ordered a set of Infinity Reference 6x8 2-Way speakers. After the install, somewhat lackluster (read: suck). Correct me if I'm wrong, but would they sound better in the door, with the door sub handling the base, and these taking care of the mid and high end?

Also, a three parter, would 3-way be better as opposed to a 2-way in this instance? one more, what size are the door subs? I need to replace these yet, and does anyone have any reccomendations for a good set, costing perhaps $150?

IIRC They are 8" subs, but you'll need something with a shallow depth. If you upgraded the speakers but didn't upgrade your amps, they will sound like ace.
