all i have to say about this is i have the escort solo2 and it was great at telling me i just got a ticket. I went off just as normal right after the cop pulled a u turn and arrested me. So yeah you can spend the 300+ bucks on a dector but the only 1 i can really recommend is a scrambler, alought it is considerd illegal they have ones now that scramble the signal for 3 seconds and during this time it allows you to slow down to the legal limit, and then it registers on the gun.

Jus to let you know there is almost no radar dector on the market that will provide protection against LAZER or (X) band, only the scramber will save you, because unlike the radar gun the lazer is a point, shoot, got em. When the police just point it at the target and ur screwed.

your eyes ftw!
I don't have a radar detector anymore because my cobra one broke..... But since then, I have become sooo much more observent, that I don't really need one anymore. I am just constantly scanning for them and I don't have to depend on them.

Save for a Valentine One, My brother had a cobra, my sister had a passport and My dad had another make I dont remember. I purchased a valentine one and we went to do some road testing. The Valentine one detected everything first, sometimes even by 10 seconds against some of the other units. + it also tells you what band and from where it is coming, + it is the only one with TRUE 360 degree protection. Save and buy a valentine one or buy an outdated one on ebay and sent it to them to upgrade for free.

so far the escort passport 8500 x50 has worked well for me. however it has failed me once. i got the passport on my 16th b-day and put it in my truck. i had my truck for two years and the passport saved me countless times and i received no tickets even though i sped constantly. two years later i sold the truck and bought my gt. two weeks after i got my gt i got a ticket. talk about irony. thank god for lawyers (don't hear that phrase often). now according to the records i had a defective exhaust

all in all you get what you pay for when it comes to radar detectors and i think the passport is still a good deal. sure the valentine may be better but it's more expensive as well.

I've heard the Valentines are fantastic, but for now I've got an Escort 8500 and its saved me on countless occasions. I highly recommend them.
