Default engine feedback

i have a 94 gt vert, stock mach 460 system with an alpine deck, every now and then i get engine feedback through the speakers, when i hit the brakes that will trigger it too...the previous own has it installed at circuit city, they said the wires will need to be replaced....anyone know what is causing this and how to fix it?

by feedback, do you mean that you get the engine noise that varies with the RPM's? Or do you mean a loud "pop"

I have a 94 gt with the 460 as well that I just replaced, check out page 2 of my signature to show the installation.

The popping noise is normal and from what I understand can be fixed by putting a 1k ohm resistor in series with the remote turn on wire. I have not tried this myself just heard that it works. The popping noise however is just from the voltage at the amp getting too low and it turning on and off. Mine does it when I roll up my windows.

it varies with RPM's - and its not all the time, when i hear it i turn the deck off and that usually takes care of it for a while, sometimes it doesnt go away til the car is turned off.

ok, that helps. Who put your radio in?

It sounds like the factory amp is getting some noise into it somehow and it is wired to turn on and off with the key, rather then the radio. We need to find out how the wired it into the factory system and might need to change one or two small things.

there should not be any reason to have to rewire the entire system, but then I do not have the car infront of me. Does the sound come from the sail speakers by the mirrors stonger then the sub on the bottom? If that is the case then we can probably fix the noise problem by bypassing the factory amp and wiring the deck directly into the hrns that I am pointing to on page to of my signature.

how comfortable are you with taking the dash off and doing some wiring?

send me yer pic and we will talk............ LOL

all I really need you to do is to take the dash off the way I showed in my signature, and see if they wired into which hrns. More then likely they wired the deck into the amps and that is what is causing your noise. The speaker will play better if it is driven off of the deck, and the amp is taken out.

Take the dash off, and then turn on the radio with everything plugged in. now while it is playing, unplug that hrns I am pointing to, and the front sail speakers, and the rear 5 x 7's will turn off and all you will hear is the subs in the doors, and teh one in the back. The subs get their signal from the same point that the mids/highs amps gets its signal, which is from the small black square hrns behind the radio. When you unplug that hrns that I was pointing to, you disconnect the speakers from the factory amp. Now all you have to do is wire the speaker outputs from the deck, to the hrns that you just disconnected.

If all this is too much, I could always make the hrns for you and ship it up. to do it the way I did you need 2 hrns, some capacitors to take the bass out of the front speakers. Parts would run me about $30-40.... If all went well you would simply plug it in and start playin........
