Default Alpine SWR-1242D...

i want to use 2 Alpine SWR-1242D subs in my 96 3.8L coupe, but i am unsure about what sort of amp to buy. any suggestions would be welcome, i am looking for some BIG BASS. i have about 1000$ to spend, so i'm gonna upgrade the audio. the Alpine subs seem like the best quality for the price, but i have heard good things about JL as well. i am a total noob when it comes to this sort of modification... please help!

JL makes a great product and worth every penny but it can be beaten in the "bang for the buck" catagory.

Alpine Type R Subs are a great way to go. Go with a reputable amp like Rockford Fosgate, Orion, Alpine and go for something that will compliment the subs. If you go with the Dual Voice Coil Subs, each voice coil can handle the RMS wattage rating, so those subs handle 500 watts RMS per voice coil or 1000 watts RMS a piece.

For comparison, I am running two SWR-1042D and powering both with a 425watt RMS amp. It is more than enough bass for me.

wait now, you don't want to get DVC unless you are planning on getting the proper amp to push them. You need to match the subs to the amp to get the most out of them.

+1, Make sure to watch your Impedances and definitely make sure your wiring everything together correctly.

uhh....no those subs handle 500 RMS period...they are ALL DVC....either daul 2 ohm or dual 4 ohm...and just get the new Alpine PDX 1000w amp...if the company makes subs why not match them up with the amp that it was meant for?
