Get a memphis mojo 12" if you want loud, no other 12 is louder when don right. It will even kill philthy's 15 and before you try and call bs I know this for a fact because I had the exact same speaker in my truck and my freind who is a "master" installer did the box and could only get 143DB out of it. In the 1 single memphis mojo 12" he got 154DB out of it. But the amp philthy showed is the shiz that power my 3 12's.

It amazes me some time to see how wrong some people can be! Look it doesnt really matter what BRAND subwoofer you have it matters most of how much air a subwoofer displaces. A sub can displace air by how big the face of the woofer is and linear excurision (how far the subwoofer travels out).
http://www.soundoff.org/showresults....eyScheldule=40 <--- here is the proof of what my car did at a USAC event

So for this reason the superwoofer like the W7 and l7 make their name for having either a longer excurision or bigger mass. SO with this being said it also has alot to do with power, box and car. But what I believe is that there is no replacement for displacement and there is a limit to what one subwoofer can put out. I will even dare to say that it is impossible that the previous entry has any truth at all! If you look at the link overhead there is a Anothey Shade that hit a 142 something and he did that with a hatchback car... a vented box a 12w7 and jl500/1 ( car I designed) and he took first place. So again a 154db with one sub; I think not.
I hit a 144.9 with 3 15" and a jl1000 in a trunk model car and took second in my class.
So I guess the point of all of this rambling is that there is not really a superior brand but rather every company makes a superwoofer... but I would rather have two cheaper woofers of the same value any day!

It is possible to hit 150db with 1 sub, It has been done w/ the type R's before. I was trying to tell him before, it is all in the install. A JL is not gonna hit 150. That being said, it does matter to a certain extent what sub you do have. Most is, powering that sub and getting the proper enclosure built by somone who knows what they are doing. It has to be ported and tuned correctly to match the sub. Do I believe the previous post's claim of 154? No. I said it is possible, but by no means easy. Takes a lot of knowledge and trial and error. I would guarantee it wasn't on a TL. I like JL's. That is what I currently have. It's all about your tastes. I hit 146.8 with 3 JL12W3d2's in a ported box 2.25 cu ea tuned to 34 hz, powered by a PG 1200.1 @ 1 ohm. I ran a Type R 15 with the same amp with a ported box and it was as loud if not louder, wasn't able to get it metered at the time.

Man.. it sounds like you are pretty educated and maybe if it was a car built for spl and was competely sealed with Mucho dynamat and cold weather. My car hit what it did in a trunk model car at 92 degree temperature with a back seat blocking the bass. ne ways I would like to say that I have a friend of mine that we did a 13w7 with JL1000 in a tahoe and hit a 142.8. I have to tell you that if you have ever been to a recent USAC event you will see that the numbers are no where near as high as what you are saying. We have at my shop a SPL audiocontrol meter and my car hit a 150.1.. but the numbers with USAC are much lower. If you are curious to see the numbers at that show it was around a 155 and that was with a dual alt set up and 10 12" T2 Rockford subs with 10 t10001bd.
ALso in case you are curious we do:Alpine, Rockford, Jl , Mtx, Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony... and more ( so i have no preference).
IF you want to know I have Scott Owens on Speed Dial

i have a type r 15" in my truck, 2k max, 900rms, in a custom ported box, can't get any better than this for the money. its known all over that the type r hits harder and clearer than anything kicker has ever made.

if you wanna try something a little bit different, go with an Adire Audio Brahma, or an IDMAX from Image Dynamics. Both hit hard, and unlike the L7 from kicker they sound damn good. I've used both myself and short of spending the big $$$ they want for a JL w7 I think there the best you can get.
