Default 07 rear peaker replacement

I want to upgrade my rear speakers on the 07 Shaker 500. Could someone please tell me how you get them out (no grill), and why
Crutchfield says size is 5X7 AND 6X8 (it cant fit both, can it?). Also, any help on the color of wire for ground and hot would be appreciated.

Yea, having the same problem, but I can answer the 5x7/6x8 question. Ford has been doing this for many years. The speaker size Ford puts in these cars is a 6x8" however, the 5x7" also fits in volkswagons and a couple other imports, so there are more manufacturers making 5x7's with extra oblong bolt holes to fit the 6x8 openings too. As far as I know the only manufacturer making real 6x8's is Pioneer (as of about 3 years ago, there may be more now) I've always run 5x7's in my other Fords since I'm not a big fan of Pioneer midrange speakers. Almost every manufacturer makes a 5x7. So essentially, to answer your question, YES, both sizes DO fit the car.

As long as the '07 is like the '06 and '05 (I'd imagine it is), there will be 4 screws holding each of the two speakers in place, at the 4 corners. It's an absolute pain to do, given how little room there is to work with between the top of the deck and the rear window (or I just have large hands). I forget the exact size of allen wrench used, but it only took me a few minutes to get each of them out. If you can get some allen wrenches with longer handles, it'd probably be a lot easier.

And as for the grille, just take the head of a flat blade screw driver under the corner of the grille, and slow pop it out. doens't take too much force.

Thanks guys. Good info on the size.
However, dont know if you are aware or not, the 07 has no grill over the speakers. They hid them under a sort of cloth. From what I have gleaned from a stereo shop, you have to take out much of the back seat trim, then remove the panel and cloth laying on the back deck, just to get to the speaker screws.
I have about decided to put up with the stock speakers for now.

don't give up that easy! One of these days I'm going to dive in and change mine out. Since there is absolutely no info on here about them, maybe I'll document how I get to them and post it on here so others won't have the troubles we're having.

Hey, I don't know if you ever got around to changing out your rear speakers, but I did tonight. I posted a nice big How-To thread on it here :
https://mustangforums.com/m_2586959/tm.htm

I actually found a way to modify the mounting technique to make it easier to change them out later on too.
