In their day (20 years ago) Cobra made good detectors but that was a long time ago.
Do not buy a cobra, if you need something on a budget look at the whistler XTR 560, if you can save a few more bucks go with the bel895 that Radio Shack sells for $199.
Nothing wrong with ether one of these units.

The Bel is the best bang for your $$ because it uses the older motherboard design from the higher end BEl rx65 which is one the big 3 detectors out there at this time.
If money is tight then the Whistler is going to be a good budget unit that will do the job.

Just remember NO radar detector is 100% a sure thing. You still need to keep an eye out.

...Check your state laws if getting a jammer, some states have them banned.
I would think you have a good point. Not only b/c it may be illegal, but I would think a cop that got his radar jammed while looking at you, may be a little PO'd.

Maybe there would be no "legal" issue with it particularly, but would pull you over for no front plate, or tinted roll-downs just to get even with you. If you get away with speeding, that is all you can ask for, don't rub it in a cops face.

I agree and its fact....if you wanna buy a radar detector, you MUST go with the best -which is Valentine 1 for $400,and its the money worth.PERIOD!
There is no point buying a cobra or other radar detectors for that price who won't safe you one bit when comes down to it...

Here is my question,do you want a radar detector that gives you more false alarms, and makes you guess,if you can speed and if it will tell you for sure there is a cop with a gun or radar ahead of you,or do you want a radar detector that you know for 99% it will safe you and give you a perfectly accurate signal...from miles away.
V1 not only tells you where the cop is aka the radar, gun is located....it also detects radars and guns from behind, which the valentine is the only kind that is able to do that...Its the most relaible radar detector out there.
I have a friend, who has that Passport and I have the V1 we both had in my car whil driving through the city and next to polie stations....the passport made maybe 8 false alarms and did not make one sound when we drove next to police station and parked police vehicle...when we switch it to the V1 the only time we heard a sound signal was when we came close to the police station.....

The V1 is also very good on hills and curves...as with every radar...if the trooper, especially here in Ohio and Michigan uses a laser gun, that he can turn on and off,to get your speed,is a little low.....but still.

I would say get the V1 - $400 bucks well invested and it does not lose it value, meaning you can always sell that piece for $350 on e bay or more...

Usually Troopers and Officers will tell the same thing to get the V1 and the nice thing about V1 is also, you can have the radar detector updated to the newest versions and guns lasers out there,if you need to.

But here in Michigan...on I-75 north towards detroit, which the speed limit is 70 and usually everyone is going 75 - 85, and I drove 100mph many times...believe it or not...its almost normal...so It saved my butt many times.
The laser jammers are alright but not 100% effective....
