Default Total Noob MP3 Question

Iown a '02 Mustang GT, with stock audio system (Mach 1000), with a 6 disc changer. My questions are this:

1. Can my system play mp3's off CDs?
2. What is the best way for me to interface my mp3 player with the car stereo (all I have is headphone output on the mp3 player).

I know that I could by an fm transmitter, but from what I read they work spotty, and the quality is ****. Is there maybe a line in I can grab somewhere behind the radio? I reallylike my stock radio because it blends with the rest of the console, but if there are no other options, I wouldn't mind purchasing another one, as long as it was reasonably priced, fit inside the console nicely, and had a built in harddrive or something. Thanks for suggestions.

Your best bet for what you're looking to do is to either use an FM transmitter and tune in to another channel (Not recommended for the best sound quality, as you're only going to get radio sound quality, which I want to say is something like 96 khz, whereas CD quality is like, 160 or 192...I forget the numbers off the top of my head), or you can go with an aftermarket stereohead unit with an AUX In line input. Many new stereos have these ports availableon the back, but you're probably looking at $200-$300 to get a semi-decent head unit with this capability. FM Transmitters are usually a lot cheaper than that.

I've got an '03 GT with the Mach 1000 and have the same dilemma. What I was wondering is this: what if I were to swap out my head unit with the Mach MP3 model.....what functionality would I lose in the exchange? I already know that I'd lose the CD changer (no biggie), but what about wattage and sound options?
