between 2 pioneer units
im lookingat the pioneer 6800 and the 5800. I like the 6800 alot and it has more features and all, espeacially being ipod ready. But some people say that the 6800 is so bright at night that it can be annoying. I have an old pioneer in now and im hoping the setup should be the same.... but if anyone can tell me how they like either of these id appreciate it.
I think you can wire it to the dimmer switch for the dash lights.
As far as I know Pioneer is still using the same harness from 5 years ago.
I have a 5 year old Pioneer CD player and it uses the same harness as my new DEH2700MP.

so if i were to buy the 5800 model which is the one that does not have the aux input in the front, what else would i have to buy to be able to play my ipod... it says its ipod ready but does that mean i need to buy some adapter?
I have the 6800 in my 03 and I LOVE it. It is by far the best unit i have ever spent my money on. I spent the extra money and got the premier version of it but for the most part i think they are the same. I wouldnt stay away from it just cuz of the brightness of it. I like the bright blue display. at night it almost gives your interior a blue glow and it looks cool from the outside. And as far as the sound, it too is awsome. I have the ipod interface with mine and i dont know what i would do without it. Its awsome being able to control the ipod thru the deck, and since its ipod ready it has plenty of text space so you can view more of your artist and stuff. over all its and awsome deck and i would deff. go for the 6800!
and if you buy the 5800 you would need the iPOD interface kit. It is around 150 I think. dont quote me on that but I think thats what it was. I would get it for the 58 or 68. I think its way better to have the ipod stored in your glovebox and able to control it thru your deck. plus I think it has better sound quality that if you you the aux input cord.

I have a Pioneer and they have a Ipod mond thatinto the bus connector on the radio. Best Buy has it for $50.00. Also if you have XM or Sirus, You can plug that in and the radio will know the difference. With this one, your Ipod controls will be threw the radio and it also charges the Ipod. I wouldn't get the one with the plug in the front, You will not get the same sound as a direct plug. It was the best $50.00 that I spent.
I have the same 6800(similar anyway), i heard that, you can dim the screen but not the buttons. I havent ever found it too bright, only time i noticed it was while drivin through pitch black country roads at 1230 at night ahha. Buy the 6800, you wont regret it.
