Default Equalaizers are made equal??

Just a catchy phrase to get you in this post. I have a eq in my 93 vert and found it in the car when I got it.

It is not hooked up and looks like it doesn't work. Just would like to know if any of you huys are using an equalizer and/or have it installed in the same place as mine? What are they good for? Is it worth the money to have it replaced in my car? Need inputs...

I recommend you DO NOT use an equalizer. Too often an eq is used tomakethe song you are listening to"louder". Not really what it is designed for.It is meantto boostfrequencies within the songto get a properrelationship of bass/mids/highs(you probably already know this, but for our listeners who dont).

If you set up your system correctly, you will not need an eq (93.492% of the time)

an eqwill make the music sound diferent, maybe better maybe worse depends on how it is set. to make it sound better it may take some time playing with it to get it set for your system and ears (everyone likes it different). eqs are worth it to me. it can help make up for somethings the system is lacking.

I like eq's personally, but I am a tweeker when it comes to my sound........ There is a large gap in EQ quality and a bad or even only descent one can leave you with noise issues and as mentioned above if you ya don't know how to use it can make things worse. It isn't rocket surgery however and honestly if you like it with a 8db boost to the high hats, more power to ya. In that model of stang the kit has an eq spot built in so it was either an eq, or a blank spot to look at....... I would do the eq....

I have owned kenwood and alpine eq's and had great luck with both, they never die. That clarion in the pic is not bad either. Stay away from the really bad names or chrome flames......

100% correct.

An equalizer is a band aid for a improper installation. I don't even use the eq on my head unit.

If your a tweeker... install your equipment correctly and then play with your crossovers and gains to verify everything is correct.

I still have the ability to control my sub's volume, but that is with a remote gain know, not a bass boost.

I used to play with all my eq stuff, but after I made sure my install was bulletproof, I turned them all to flat. It sounds amazing.

I agree but I find I like to adjust stuff from cd to cd, or just from song to song sometimes. The curse ofa tweeker - "maybe just a little too much drums, a little more midrange, Ah PERFECT!" - for the next 5 mins........

I use to own a few equalizers back in the early 90's. back when they substituted as a power amp and EQ. I really liked the sound of them and being able to tweek your own sound. With todays new headunits with good treble, bass and sometimes midrange controls, this has done away with EQs. Just was wondering if any of you guys had one installed in your cars (Mustang or anything else)? I might look into getting another one. I might have to cut a new shroud though for it and my Alpine to sit in.
