Need help...i'm blowing fuses
yeah you have a problem... if it is working now you probably have a problem with the amp and how it is bridged... if the amp is not bridged correctly it can blow fuses... currently i am running 4 fosgate 12's off a single fosgate power bd 1500 and blowing woofers with 100 amp fuse
Theres no question that a higher amp fuse will work. And in a perfect world (system) all will be fine forever. The idea is that the fuse blows before there is an over-draw of amperage down a wire, or to a particular electrical device (amp in this case).
For example, if one installs a 20 amp fuse for a 14 guage wire in 110 vt. A/C you will be creating a hazard. The wire will melt before the fuse will trip even is there is no electical problem, just too many hair dryiers and toasters all running simultaneously for an extended period of time. In the case of the amp, the same type of issue comes into play. If the wire were undersized, or amp got too hot you get electrical resistance. Resistance = Heat... this is a bad thing! You may start arc-welding before the fuse fails.
I will let this topic go now.Hopefully, this will not beproblem in the future for91blackmustanggt.

EDIT: oops! No such thing as 15 guage romex 2 wire for homes (again, so ashamed [

never said my experience is always correct. But I will say that you have bigger problems if you made a jump that large in fuses. Please tell me that you first tried a 100, then 150, ect? A fuse that big should be for cable no smaller then 2 awg. If you are running it on anything smaller, the wire will burn up and melt before your fuse blows if it should ground out............ If you have amps drawing that much current on small cable I am willing to bet it gets warm, try jammingthe system for a whileand then check your ground, your factory 8 awg ground...................... Bet that is warmer yet if you didn't upgrade the big 3 wires and you are running a system that draws 250 amps.....
If you make a jump to a fuse that big, you need to upgrad that power wire, the gound for the amps as well as the factory ground wires and the wires to the alt, as well as you will need a high output alt. you can't fix that with a cap, please don't suggest it.........
also please do not assume I am a 15 yr old that walked into my first shop yesterday. I did my first alarm install in my 94 GT, IN 94..... That was after a year or two of basic professional installs and I have been at it since in either a full or part time fashon.

I went from a 40 amp to a 250 and fixed my problem. Maybe your experience isn't always correct.

NEVER try a bigger fuse. That will only make the problem worse if you have a problem.
How are you wiring a single voice coil, single sub into a 4 channel amp and what else is that amp driving?

only for a second or two........ and its hard to put the smoke back in.......

Either this topic is closed or I can see the black smoke of doom coming from the amp.
