MDF is not wood. It is medium density fiberboard. It is made by compressing saw dust at high pressures and temperatures and using glue to bind the particles. It is available at just about any hardware store and it around $20 for a 4'x8' sheet.

You will need 1.25 inch coarse thread screws (orange label and home depot and lowes) Make sure you pre-drill the holes and possible countersink.

For added adhesion use some sort of liquid nails to hold before you screw. (I prefer the one with silicone)

After everthing is together, get a tube of silicone caulk and run a seam over all the joints. Let it cure for at least 24 hours (becuase the silicone fumes eat sub surrounds) and then you should be ready to go.

You can buy a terminal cup at radio shack or possible home depot. Make sure you seal it with silicone also.

For carpet I use 3M headliner adhesive, a razor blade, and buy my carpet at autozone or wal-mart.

There is also a great writeup on www.bcae1.com

The calculations depend on the woofer. I usually follow manufacter specs on box type.

That website has some great calculators.
