3-way speakers in doors
Someone suggested to me to put a 3-way setup in my front doors. They also said remove the rear speakers altogether. I like the idea. I am putting a 13" sub in the trunk.
Questions:
Is this a bad idea?
If not, should I purchase a 3-way component setup and drive with a 2 channel amp, or a 2-way component plus a 6.5 midrange and drive with a 4 channel amp?

Which JL? And you can do a component system and add an additional mid-woofer to the system. Have alot of punch so your assuming W6 or W7 isn't over powering everything. Get a BIG 2 channel and power the front stage or yeah if you need to you can use a 4 channel that way, it'd be easier to just get a large 2 channel and a separate amp for your woofer.

This is what I had in mind.
I was thinking about JL audio amps (1 mono-500and a 2 channel-300). I do not wanta large sub box. JL audio has a compact 13" that fits into a custom box in the passenger corner of the trunck. I have not heard this woofer yet.... I was going to remove the speakers in the rear deck, and put a 3-way component setup in the front. For that, I was thinking about Focal Polyglass (Polykevlar maybe).
Thanks for any feedback...

EASY FELLAS............. Try not to bite this one...........
3 ways are great speakers if you can set them up properly but to do so you need to get them all as close together as possible. You will more then likely have to do some kind of kick panel to get them to fit and sound good. All of this is gonna cost significantly more time and $$$ then a good set of two way would, the choice is yours.......

The stealthbox your looking at has a 13W6 in it. Thats alot of bass! A 3-way system would be great, but like t was saying it's a little harder to get everything sounding right. Are planning on doing the install or are you taking it somewhere?
We're not biting anyone, what are you talking about?

I was hoping to do the install myself, but I am beginning to think that this is for a professional. I also did not realize that the 3-way set-up would be difficult to tune in. Would I be better off steering clear of the 3-way and stick with a good 2-way? Will I get enough mid-bass and high for that 13W6? I am open to any suggestions, as I admittedly do not know much about this, but I do appreciate high quality sound.
3 ways are not difficult to tune, they are difficult to install correctly which leads to a tuning disaster. I was experiementing with an 8" sub in the doors of my pathfinder and it was the installtion requirements that lead me to remove the subs and stick with my standard 2 way setup. If the car is set up for 3 way's, like my wife's bimmer it is very simple to install and tune 3 ways.
If you decided to do something along the lines of 2 ways it would really be quite simple to install, and if you never teach yourself, you'll never learn.
On your equipment choices, JL makes a good product, but it is grossly overpriced and overrated. If you desire a true sound quality setup you can do much better then JL. I would look into Zapco, us amps, PPI Art series, and mcintosh.
Once again, what is your budget for the entire install? Do you have an aftermarket HU yet?

I believe he wants the JL for the enclosure, since it doesn't take up much space. Otherwise yes I would say money could be spent better, but sometimes something thats all tucked away and compact like that, for some people thats what they want and what works.
