Default Any Ideas?

Got a 66 and need some ideas for audio before I begin putting the interior together, motor is loud and I dont have alot of room for speakers (two kick panels, 1 set of under-dash, and two rear, with the optional sub in the trunk). Looking for ideas about good brands, placement, wiring, anything really. Pics help. Thanks

Kool paint job ideas would be good to!

I own a 65 and will give you a little idea of what I plan to install.

An eclipse HU in the glovebox

6.5 comps in the front kick panels.

Amp powering the kicks in the trunk

Subs either in the rear parcel or trunk with another amp to power it.

There is a list of brands in the information sticky, but if you provide a budget a couple of us can guide you in the right direction.

I think a nice gloss black with that dark red interior would look awsome.. or even black on black with red accents (like seats and door panels,, maybe steering wheel and everything else black)

I would go with a good pioneer head unit,, some MB Quart 6.5 components for the front with the tweeters mounted up on the dash in either corner,, Get a good 4 channel amp that is tri-power capable (that means you run the front components off the front channel and then bridge the rear for a sub) Get a good pair of 2 way 6 x9's for the rear deck and either find an open air sub to mount to a board accross the back of your rear seat or get a nice sealed q-logic box with a 10" MTX in the trunk.

Wiring shouldnt be a problem just follow the channel under your Kick plates on either side of the car.. Run your power and remote start line under one side (lets just say left side) and run the rca's on the oposite side that way you dont get any electrical noise from the signal line and power line being so close together. If you could just make sure that you buy a powerful head unit at least 30 watts rms per channel and run all of the interior speakers off of the head. Then go and buy you just a single channel or 2 channel amp for you sub/s in the rear.. That is what I have been doing forever, and if you know how to adjust your EQ on the stereo correctly it can sound really good.. I would allways have people telling me how clearly and rich my car stereo sounded... even when I had my old 79 F100,, that thing sounded great and I didnt spend a hell of alot of money.. But Im the type of guy that dosent need everyone else in the neighborhood to be able to hear what Im listening to,, I just want it to be good, loud, quality sound, in the car... FOR ME...

Most of the info was great but I'm going to guess you don't have a lot of experience in car audio. Personally I would steer clear of anything but the top of the line MB stuff, the lower line stuff has incredibly harsh tweets. You can also do much better then an MTX sub regardless of price.
Here are a couple rules of thumb.

1. Rear fill is needed is zero applications. If you have the desire just to put something back there, run some 6.5 mids from around 60-500 hz.High range from the back of the car will destroy your imaging.

2. You will need lots of sound deadening in any application to really get the most out of your stereo.

3. A single 4 channel amp is great for low power applications, but buying a 2 channel for the front comps and a powerful monoblock for the sub will be the best way to go.

4. No headunit on the face of the earth makes a clean 30 watts per channel. You will lucky to get 10 and it will still clip like crazy over half volume.

5. If the installation is of high quality, there will be little need for an eq. In general eq's that are supplied on HU's are a bandaid for a poor install. If you really want an eq get something from audiocontrol.

6. Build your own box, you will get the most out of the sub. Depending on whethere you want volume or quality, a box can be designed for either or a mix.
