NEED HELP: install stereo 1990 Mustang?
I bought an after market stereo for my 1990 Mustang 5.0. Need help installing a new stereo to replace the stock one.
I already bought a wiring harness and tried connecting it to the new stereo. It powers on fine but i'm not getting any sound.
From what I understand, there is a stock amp already installed. Some guys at circuit city have told me that that is the problem.
So I need help...
What is the best way to install my new stereo? I have heard a couple of suggestions but not sure if they are correct.
Is it best to bypass the amp? Or do I try to make use of the amp and do some rewiring? Or what should I do?
THANKS!

Same exact thing happened to me. At the moment my new HU powers on fine but I get no sound. Right off the bat we realized I needed to bypass the amp. The harness set I purchased came with one. It took us awhile to find the amp but we found it located directly beneath the stereo(on my 95GT). Problem is I can only find one plug coming out of it.
And after messing with the new stereo. My speedometer, dome light, and clocked stopped working. Found a broken fuse, fixed it, and everything worked again. The next morning the speedometer and odometers weren't working and haven't been working for days now.
So far I haven't found any answers to my problems. I bet you're glad I could be of some help.
If I were you I'd look for the amp beneath your stereo and see if it's there. And then bypass it with a bypass harness, if you have one. My bypass harness came with my wiring harness set.

in my 90 i had the same problem, find your amp in behind the stereo and i had ot cut mine out then do some rewiring onto my new harness, worked fine then.
