Default Upgrading Mach System

I have a 98 GT with the Mach 460 sound system... Well anytime I listen to something with bass it rattles and sounds like ****. I was hoping to just be able to replace the door speakers to solve this problem but a buddy of mine was saying I would have to replace the factory head unit also if I wanted good sound from the new speakers.
What would you guys reccomend? I want something cheap that will sound decent. Sound systems are the last thing on my mind usually and I would like to spend my money on performance but that poor bass and rattling is drving me nuts.

So whats the cheapest route to go? New door speakers and head unit.? Do I want 2way or 3way speakers?

I was looking at the Pioneer TSA1670R door speakers cause they can be found for under 100$ for the pair or even cheaper on ebay and also the Pioneer DEH-1600 Head unit; It runs about 100$ also.

Alright... thanks

the thing with replacing the door speakers is that every time you take the panels and everything off its just going to make more things rattle...ecspecially with you putting speakers w/ more bass in them.

thats only if you take them off a few times tho. If oyu have a proffesional installing these then there should be no problem. i had my speakers installed, an alarm, and my door repainted and my door doesnt rattle even with my subs. You just got to make sure that the installer knows what the hell hes doing!

So could I be ok with just getting new door speakers? Or would I need to replace the head unit in order to get good quality sound from the speakers?

more watts = more bass, the stock head unit will power then but its not doing much good if your still putting out low wattage. I would get a new head unit if i were you, but its not a must.
