dim switch for footwell lights....
hey guys..
i got 2 blue 8 inch neons for the footwells, and was gunna hook up a dim switch in it, so that i could control how bright they are, i did a mod liek this in my truck, and they were so bright that they actually interfiered wiht night driving witht he reflection in the windows..
my question is...
WHERE CAN I GET ONE THAT WILL LOOK DESCENT.. i am about to go to an old junk store type place in the area that sells like random things, like speakers, or any kind of cable you can imagine, switches, any fuse you would ever need, blank circuit boards, airplane propeler.. lol
thanks for any help

I'm not too knowledgeable on how to pick the correct one of these, but I figure you could probably hook up a potentiometer inline with the power wire.
Ignore this if you already know:
Basically, a potentiometer is what's known as a "variable resistor." Think of a flood gate. The more you open the floodgate, the more water is allowed out. Likewise, the less resistance, the more power. Examples: volume ****, gain ****, instrument panel dimmer ****, etc. So, if you were to turn down the potentiometer, it would put more resistance on the power being fed to the neon, thus less power = less light.
But someone help me out here because I don't really know what all is involved in choosing the right potentiometer.

Does your lights have a spec sheet or something that talk about power?
EDIT: I know radio shack carries potentiometers, according to their website. I don't who else does though. Someone else chime in and help please.
ya i know where/how to wire it..
but liek if you know about subs and stuff.. they have a phone jack type hook up.. instad of something that you would hook up a terminal hookup type thing.. if im making any sence..
and ya
SOME ONE CHIME IN!!!!!!!!
