Default Aftermarket Radio Install

I have an 89 LX and I tried to Install an Alpine Deck and it wouldn't play the sound. So,I took it to the local radio shop, they said the car has a factory amp and that I will need to get the system rewired or something.

Im wondering if this is common and also if about 50 dollars sound about right for the install of new whatever they are putting in... I cant remember what exactly he said. The other possibility is that I can hook up an amp to the speakers and then to the radio.

Basically Im asking if anyone else knows about this and what they ended up doing.

Thanks

89??? factory amp??? try swaping your negative wires.... flip flop the front and rear... so right pos, has left neg and left pos. has right neg... I had to do that.... I had no sound until I did that, and now it's cool!!!
but any shop should've been able ti wire in your system......
maybe something else is wrong...

I had the same problem with my 89. The audio place spent about 4 hours rewiring everything. Still only cost me $50 because that's what they quoted me. IMO $50 is well worth it.

the amp is easily bypassed if you know how, but nobody knows how. Look at page 2 of my cardomain page and it will help. For has all the wiring you need in there already. On your car the amp is directly below the radio. It is a metal octagonally shapped box with a bunch of holes in it, and two hrns's going into it. Follow them out and one will go behind the glove box, and should have a connector that looks exactly the same as the one I point to on page 2. Disconnect it and then pull it back to the radio opening. Use a standard ford radio hrns (70-1770) and use the speaker side to plug into the hrns you just pulled back to the radio, and the original power hrns that was plugged into the factory radio and you just bypassed the factory system.

You can also hook up the blue wire on the deck, to the blue AND the blue and white wire in the dash and it will play although not sound as good.

They took out the factory amp and basically bypassed it and now everything works good. $50.... not bad, it included the dash kit and parts fee, they were kind of surprised that it had a factory amp too..... 20 year old car and all

Thanks for your input.
