first of all, do you have the Mach 460? If so, did it come with a CD player originally? We need all the information about your cars sound system

thanks for the reply. no factory cd in car, there had been an after market radio in car but had nothing in it when i got it. bought am/fm cassette at local mustang yard, it hooked up fine but he didn't have wire for cd player. he said the harness i need had 1 wire with a red plug plus the others. he said it was premium sound.can you tell me what this means. salvage is closed this week for vacation. i need to know how many wires and what they look like to hook up cd. i ordered some wires from ebay but guy sent me the wrong one i think he sent me the amp wire has 1 90 degree metal end and 1 straight black end. is this one needed. the wire i ordered had two metal ends with 90 degree bends which he called radio to cd patch cable and 1with 2 black ends he called this the ground cable.would these 2 wires do the job. i think i still need 1 more wire which i think he has but in different auction. there is a 98 radio cd harness on ebay that has all the plugs xb084 part #F8ZB19B11-BC this looks like it has it all. ebay #180135153319 is this more than i need. I hope this will help, if you can tell me what i need i think i can find it. When i pulled out cd block cover there is a metal box under this what is this is it part of radio system or part of computer.

OR....You could get another aftermarket radio that has an iPod hookup and get her an iPod. Then she could listen to the audiobooks on a digital format and never have to see another cassette tape again. I realize this would cost a lot more however, so good luck to you on your quest. But it at least gives you something to think about...

Pictures of the wires. Orange is antenna that goes into the radio, cable marked cd player is either a 6 or 8 pin cable that runs between the CD player and radio. Red plug is power for the cd player, two black cables are radio and cd player housing grounds.

Top wire bundle are the speaker wires and power harness.

the hrns that is cut is the factory amp input. It will be a pia to figure out the wiring on it unless you know what you are doing. I have been doing this for over 10 yrs and I would not look forward to it. You would be better off replacing it with an aftermarket unit and bypassing the factory amps. You will need to replace the speakers as well if you want any kind of bass responce since the amp drived the woofers and all you will be able to power is the tweeters. Who ever cut that hrns really did a good job.

which harness are you talking about? Second picture, top DIM, left most cut harness is speakers, right most is power. And its not that big of a deal to wire in and get rid of the speaker pop. Helms has great wiring diagrams. I do agree with TTocs that if you do not know what you are doing, bypass the amps, otherwise, use a four pot dial in and some resistors and you are good to go
