Battery run down from amplifier
I hooked up my system last summer. I am running an Audiobahn 8000T and for some reason, over a period of time, it slowly runs down the battery until my 07 GT is completely dead. I've got the right remote wire, and I've literally watched the amp turn off when the door is opened after the ign is shut off. The fan continues to run on the amp until it is cool and then also shuts off. (what its supposed to do). I've just disconnected the +12 wire all together over the winter time, the last thing I want to do is be stranded because of sounds, but now that its warm out, I want it back up n runnin. Anyone else had this problem or have advice as to why this is doing this?
My first guess is the amp is defective if you are watching it "turn off" everytime.
By the way, no amp should need to have the fans continue to run once it's shut off. If an amp is getting that hot that it needs to, then there are some issues with how the amp is designed and built.
It's not like a DLP tv where the bulb needs to cool down before it shuts of because its a shock to relativly sensitive material (glass) especially when it is going from hot to cold, cold to hot etc.
I have ran my amp for a solid couple hours and it's mounted inside my rear seat delete. Completly enclosed and I have never had it thermally shut down, let alone had any issues with it after.
And it's a $100 amp...

By "watching it turn off" I meant that I've proven that it turns on and off when the radio does, when I shut off the car and open the door. Just saving some time from all the check the +12 and remote hook up replies.
The fan runs on a thermostat, and only takes a few minutes beyond when the amp is shut down.
The amp works just fine, performs as it should.
It's just that something is drawing power from the battery, to where it is fine for a few weeks, and then all of a sudden, its dead. And it only happens when my stuff is hooked up.

Take a meter hook it up to your battery see how much power is getting pulled with your doors shut and all that just as it would be in the garage, with the alarm armed or not if you have one even, then disconnect the amp and do the same test if it's still pulling it's not your amp if it is significantly lower, then it's your amp, theres no "weird wiring" you can do to an amp where it will constantly pull like my alarm. It's pretty cut and dry the only way to do it with an amp is by not connecting a remote wire. Check the remote wire for splices and everything otherwise, it's your amp man, sorry to say...
Ohh and a normal constant pull off your battery when your car is sitting is right around .01 I believe. .015 if you have an alarm and it's armed.
When my alarm had wiring issues it was pulling about .27 so it was just a day or two and the battery was completly dead.
