Default Box is Made - Have a ?

My friend and I got my box made. It is all put together with black carpet and whatnot. My question is (since I get my 13kv2 today) should I pre-drill holes for the speaker or should I just line up the speaker and drill the screws in? Any particular screws I should use? I have self tapping ones and regular ones for wood.

Just use regular wood screws.

You can't go wrong with pre-drilling. You wouldn't want to crack the wood now that it is done, would you?

Pre-drill them.

I always use the screws that have the rounded top and flat bottom, the part the touches the the speaker mounting point. Go buy a pack for $2. Dont use regular like dry wall screws that have like a cone shape to the head of them.

I always use coarse thread drywall screws, but to each thier own. Just as long as the woofer is securely mounted and it doesn't leak air, you should be good to go.

either or.......... No matter which way you do it make sure you do not port your speaker. That is what we call it when the screw driver or drill slippes off the speaker and pokes a hole in the surround. If your using a drill use a screw stabalizer.

on the box I just built for my personal stang I used some threaded inserts. You pre-drill a 1/4" hole, then screw in the threaded insert. I then mount the subs using threaded security screws. This will allow me to remove the subs as many times as I need and not have to worry about the screw holes wearing out. In my case though I am using 10 yr old subs that I plan on wearing out before the box wears out and I am not going to sell that car.

That is the best way to do it! I'm usually to lazy to make a run to the hardware store and forget them when I'm getting my supplies!

I have 1/2" Self-Drilling screws and I have 1/2" Sheet-Metal screws. I believe the self drilling ones would work OK - no? They say that no pre-drilling is neccesary.
