Nav units
I went to Best Buy, Circuit City and Audio Express to try and look at some in dash navigation units todays. The only thing Best Buy and Circuit City had on display was the Pioneer D3. Audio Express had the Pioneer Avic Z-2 and the Kenwood DNX7100. So needless to say I only stayed at Audio Express for any length of time.
I've narrowed my choices down to the Pioneer Avic Z-2 and the Kenwood DNX7100.
The things I like about each one are:
Kenwood DNX7100:
-Full Ipod integration at full speed. I have a 80GB Ipod video
-Garmin GPS system.
-Easy to bypass
-More supported file types like DIVX for video
Pioneer Avic Z-2:
-30GB hard drive. Leaves room for upgrading the maps. Though I don't listen to cds very often so
the recording feature for music storage isn't that important to me
-voice command. Didn't try it out but it seems pretty cool. Though there is some debate on how
well it works
-12 million POI
-Text to speech
Now I know that alot of people that have Nav units went with the Pioneer Avic Series and people just really love it. Is is worth the extra money over the Kenwood. I can get the Kenwood for about $1086.00 and the Pioneer for just over $1500.00 on Amazon.com.
Also I might be wrong, but I thought that thesse systems can still use the door subwoofers. The smuck at audio express today said I wouldn't be able to use them with any aftermarket deck. Course he did then try and get me to buy a couple of subs and an amplifer to add to the unit.
Also, does anyone know the size of the drive in the Kenwood and the size of the Garmin maps. I would hate to have to upgrade the maps and not have enough room on the drive for the updates
