Default 2 12" in 2002 Coupe

How's it going?
I'm looking into purchasing 2 12" Rockford Fosgate subwoofers(P1S412), and most likely a Sony Xplod amp(Either XM-2002GTR, or
XM-SD22X). I will be keeping the factory sound system(Mach 460).

I just have a few questions before I purchase the system.

First of all, since I am keeping the factory head unit, what would the difference be in buying the rca converter, or a line out converter? I realize the line out converter taps into the rear speaker, while the rca converter creates rca jacks to connect directly. Would there be a difference in sound, the way you would change EQ levels, etc?

Now, for a 2002 with the Mach 460, I would need the FDO2B rca converter, not the FDO3B. Correct?

As many of us now, finding an enclosure for our cars can be a real pain. Has anyone come across a great fitting, decently priced subwoofer enclosure for the mustang? I found an MTX sealed enclosure @ Circuit City and a local speed shop for $80, but I would just like to make sure I'm covering all ends.

Finally, as for the actual installation, are there any tutorials or articles that could walk me through the installation of the subs & amps in a 2002 Mustang?

I'm sorry if I reposted any questions, but I would just like to make sure I cover all bases.

Thanks for your patience, and I look forward to the replies.

Dont waste your money on RF or Sony, Excelon stuff is decent, no where near great though, the same goes for MTX as well.

First off your LOC is not a great idea, it's going to make any equipment (good or bad) and make it sound terrible. You should really consider getting a headunit before doing anything.

Adding just woofers to a 460 system is like putting 215/55/R17 on an 800 hp car.

Whats your budget and what is your overall goal to get, just want the bass your 460 doesn't deliver, or are you wanting to improve your entire system overall?

Installation is simple and can be done on a saturday afternoon no problem.

Also the pre-fab box idea, is a not so good idea. Build an enclosure yourself or have one built. Your enclosure and install decides about 85% of the overall performance from your system.

Read through my sticky, theres alot of pointers and "where to run your power wire" explanation with photos. All kinds of FAQs and so forth.

check out tccustomz.com for subboxes, they fit 2 12" subs with upto a 7.5" mounting depth thats where i got mine and it is excellent quaility and looks great. cost me $344 canadian shipped. it seems a bit expensive but once u get it and see the quality it is well worth it. And +1 on not getting sony car audio products.

sony decks are eh...their amps and subs are terrible...they are sold at walmart enuff said. wouldnt reccomend RF either.

either way get a deck, i wouldnt even bother trying to put subs in with a stock deck. you can get apretty decentone for a buck50 on ebay. i spent 500$ on an eclipse deck (that got stolen), best deck ive ever owned. they make a very generic one of it that u can get for like a buck20 (no aux inputs, no 8v amp preouts, etc...).

im making a box for my car, im not paying XXX$ dollars for something i could make myself for less than 50 bucks at home depot (making a fiberglass box).

nothing wrong with using a LOC. I have one that I got at walmart for like 15 bucks right now running a signal into my CrossFire VR401 for my sub. Sounds great. granted I am doing this as a Bandaid fix fro a couple months untill I get the deck that I want, but if you are on a budget they will work fine.Just tap into the data cable in the back. Simple, easy, takes 5 mins.

Now as to sony amps... believe me they are called Xplode for a reason. one took out my buddys Beemer. amp caught fire, and burned the whole car.

Nothing wrong with Crossfire amps, their old ones are great little budget amps, your statement about the LOC sounding great though is pretty rediculous.
