HELP! 86 factory stereo removal
Is there a trick to removing the factory stereo from an 86 Mustang? The dash is torn up, the console is removed, and the mounting screws for the stereo have been removed, but there just doesn't seem to be room to slide the stereo out. Unlike 87 and newer Mustang stereos, this unit doesn't use the pop-out mounts. It appears as though the only way to get it out is to slide it out the rear of the dash, but I can/t seem to get it out. Anybody have any ideas?
yea there is a reason that deck is still in there, it comes out from the back. You will need to remove the consol and glove box and possibly some of the ac stuff. The last time I did it it was in a convertable and one person stood up in the seats(top down), and then gently pried the dash upwards as I wiggled it out from the back.......
good luck.
Oh, the wiring is also common ground, it will be easier for you to run new wires to each speaker unless you are familiar with seperating the grounds in a common ground system.
gotta love the 80's
