I'm wanting to change my 8 inch subs in the doors... has anyone done this yett? if so what did you go with? i would like to keep the factory grills though

 

Cars don't have 8" woofers. They have 6"........

im pretty sure they are 6's buteither waythey arent subs, they are speakers

 

I'm pretty sure there are:

Tweeters, woofers, and sub woofers.

Woofers are the 6" spakers in doors. They have some treble and some bass.

SUB woofers have only bass.

 

You are correct subs do only have bass. As for you having 8" subs in your doors the only way that would happen is if you had it custom done because no cars come with 8" woofers in the doors. U probably have a 6.5" , 6x8 or 6x9 in your door which is a speaker not a subwoofer. Either way if you want to upgrade go to ebay youll find great deals on there i reccomend MB Quart or Diamond audio seperates but the thing is when you upgrade to a better speaker alot of time they wont put out much bass because they are made to be put with a system that has amplifiers and subwoofers and if you dont get a amplifier with these speakers you could easily blow them from underpowering them.

 

yar,cept i really wouldnt say the woofer plays treble, it plays all the lower frequency sounds, treble is saved for the tweeters. dumb arguement to get into but ive seen too many ppl calling their speakers subs and their subs speakers and its one of those things

 

No cars come with 8 inch woofers in the door??? What rock have you been living under buddy? Take your door panel off and measure the subs, they are 8 inch (that is if you have the Shaker 500 or 1000 system). Each door has an 8 inch sub with a 250W amp powering each one. The other speakers in the door are a mid and a tweeter, both in a 5x7 housing.

So, if you are looking to replace the subs, I would recommend replacing the whole front set and having an awesome center stage. Check Elemental Designs website for 3 way systems. You could get an 8 inch woofer, 5x7 mid, and a tweeter that you would have to mount somewhere. Check the mounting depth of the woofer too because I'm really not sure what all will fit in the area.
