S197 8 INCH SUBS
I see the RF 8"s in the door -
Someone said they're too deep (been there done that) yet there they sit in full color photos....
Whats the scoop here? What's the max mount depth?
The Memphis Sync 8 spec on the manufacturer's website claims 3.5". The RF P1 (?? website is dead right now)
I'd like to install a set of 3-way CDTs with a 6.75" / 4" / 1" set - placing the 6.75 in the 8" location, the 4" and 1" in a q-Logic Speaker pod, and a 4th tweeter on the A-pillar aimed at the windshield.
Website says the mounting depth for the 6.75 speaker (I can call it a speaker I hope without angering anyone) is 2.75" - far less than the Memphis. Local installer told me no way would it fit though... Also, not sure if the Q-logic pods will handle the 300 watts RMS being dealt to them (for the whole 3/4 way set-up). I should add, I was loosely quoted 1000-1500 for the speaker pods to be done custom by a local installer.... (YIKES!!!) Hence the investigation of the Q-logic.
Concerned that the pods might interfere with clutch operation ?? Never had kick panel pods before...
Any advice from other forum members?

most local installers do not know as much about ford systems as they should. Most of them will tell you that you cannot do anything with the premium systems and they could not be more wrong. IF you are going to put a 6.5 in there you will need to use a baffle(MDF ususally is easiest) and that will bring the speaker out a littledepending on what thickness of wood you use and this should make the depth no problem, but I am not sure how far it can stick out.

So the speaker I am planning to use is reportedly a 6.75" with a 2.75" mounting depth.
Not sure what you mean by using a MDF baffle. I thought a baffle was basically an enclosure that fits around the rear parts of the speaker. I didn't know that baffles were made of MDF given the odd size of speakers... Can you elaborate for me - its been about 18 years since I installed a set of Polk Audio 6.5" coaxialMobile Monitors in the doors on my 1980 Camaro with a jig saw and an extension cord..... No baffle, lots of rattle, and lets just all be thankful for progress...

New to thread - pardon if I cover old ground here.
You have the Memphis Msync8 (factory web site says mount depth 3.5 inches) in the Factory location with NO modifications? What year is the car again (wondering if there are some differences between 05-07)

Actually most of you are lost. There are 5 main types of speakers. Those are tweeter, midrange, midbass, woofer, and subwoofer. They are classified based on there respective frequecy response. The 8" speakers that are located in the doors of the S197's shaker 500/1000 are either a woofer or midbass. With a 1" tweeter and 3" midrange in the 5x7 plate in the upper location. The best upgrade for that setup is the DLS Iridium 8.3. it consist of a 1" tweeter, a 3" midrange, and a shallow 8" midbass. This is what I will be installing in my demo vehicle (yes I am an authorized dealer, I am not trying to get buisness, just educating).
This package is an IDEAL replacement. It has great power handling, fits without major modification, and has an excellent front stage presence.
