Default Blank Slate... Opinions

I am looking to upgrade the stereo in my car. I don't want to sound like an ******* driving down the road, but my stock "system" does not handle bass very well in the top 2/3 or so of the volume. The car is an 01 Chrysler Sebring LXI Coupe with the Infinity System. I am keeping the head unit stock because it has a built in 4 disc changer, plus an aftermarket stereo would look out of place. It has 7 speakers ( 1 center in the dash, 1 in each door, plus a tweeter in each door and two in back). The stock amp is a Mitsubishi/Infinity "mr472783". Speakers are 6ohms (oddball), over time the center channel speaker ripped (notorious in these) and I modified it to accept a Memphis Audio 4 ohm (6 not available) speaker.

I am not too sure on the Best option for me. I was thinking two 10's and an amp, but I was not sure how to PROPERLY install them. I read online that I can simply install the Amp wiring kit and tap into my rear speaker wires for input to the amps but it sounded TOO easy. Is this an acceptable way of installing Subwoofers? I was considering replacing the factory amp and seeing how the stereo sounded before I installed Subs, but It is a 7 speaker system and I really am not too sure on the wiring for it all.

What do you guys suggest?
Jim

Your title says it all for me...if I was you I would just rip everything out and start over. If all you want is subs, you CAN tap into your rear speakers (or fronts, it doesn't matter, but rear will give you fader capabilities). All you have to do is make sure the amp you buy has level inputs, or buy a line output converter. If money isn't an object, buy a factory sound integrater and build a nice system around that.

At a minimum you will want new front speakers, an amp, and a couple subs. An LOC is an OK way to get signal out ofa factory HU, but the best bet is to go aftermarket..

You don't have a budget, so I'll go cheap.

If you want to keep the factory HU I would buy....

2 LOC's from any local audio store *Get good quality ones
Speakers - CDT S60A http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=5207$100
Amp - http://ikesound.com/product-product_id/2213$100
Subs 2X- http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/pro...products_id=30$180
Box Building Supplies $30
Wiring kit: http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=4826$30

That comes out to around $450 and will rock! They make HU's that will fit the 1.5 din opening of the sebring.

You will have to make adapters out of mdf to make the 6.5 fit in the 6x8 opening, but it is very easy. I actually first made them installing a system in my wife's old 98 sebring.

Thank you for your input, I was wondering if you could comment on something that was brought up today at a local audio place. The guy said my factory speakers simply lack noticable crossover points which is why they get distorted. He suggested replacing the speakers with higher quality units such as Memphis PR series which have built in crossovers and see if I am happy before investing in Subwoofers.

How do you guys feel about this?

He fed you a complete load of crap.

If you have the infinity (maybe infinity gold) system there is an amp under your passender side seat. It takes the speaker level outputs from your HU and provides six speakers with thier appropriate frequency ranges.

Remember this, that guy just wants to sell the equipment he sells. I have nothing to sell you like many of the contributing members of this forum. I just want to help you get the best deal because I'm a nice guy.
