Help With My Explorer System...
I have been meaning to post, in my 97 Explorer I have a 1500watt (501s) rockford fosgate 2 channel amp pushing 1 Kicker solobaric L7 4ohm sub, and when i turn the pioneer headunit up around 18 or so to try to bounce the change around on the console LOL it keeps cutting off, does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? i forget exactly how the subs are wired, but my local shop said it was correct, any ideas? if you need anymore info let me know
There are a lot of differernt things that will turn your amp off. If your sub is DVC 4 ohm then you are running to low of resistance and thermaling. You could be overloading the input signal into the amp. You could be cutting off the Preamp in the HU by trying to peak it out.
If you cannot rattle change with a 501s and an L7, it is obviously not in the right enclosure. A good ported box and that would be really loud. I'm betting you are in a prefab sealed box...

actlally bro its the oringal kicker enclosure thats ported on the left hand backside, it should definately do better than what it is! like today, i have all the bass down on the cd player, and my power **** all the way down, like volume level 10 it starts to shut off .... then hit some more ... shut off ETCETC and if it helps any, the rockford logo never goes away, in the middle of the amp it lights up red when its powered on, when the bass stops, it stays light. any suggestions??
Is it a kicker built enclosure or a prefab someone put kicker fabric on? Many of the boxes you buy with logos are not neccesarily built to spec.
Does the amp get hot?
How many volts is your preamp on the HU? (Pionner is rarely above 2 or 3)
Have you opened up the box to make sure the connections on the sub are good?
How do you have it wired?
What is VC Config?
Are the connections on your amp good?
There are not that many things that can make an amp go into protect...

-Well ive had the sub like 2 years, came from a good friend who bought it new, so prob a kicker sub box
-the amp does not get hot
-dunno about the volts, ive got the 140 dollar pionner cd.mp3 HU though
-i opened the box last month and looked, the connections were good, but maybe have since came out
-im unsure what wiring it is set at, but when i had the sub out, i called a buddy who knows all about ohms and ****, he said it was right, i wanna say its set up like an X but im not 100%sure bro
-it may be the connections though, cuz when i hit really hard bumps it will kick it out too, maybe my rcas could be bad? when it stops raining im gonna make 100% sure the battery conenction is good, but it should be
