Fuse box would probably be the best choice for you there.

I believe it is hooked up to the fuse box but everytime we put the fuse in by the battery the radio cuts off and the amp has no power. We have tried turning the radio on first then putting the fuse in and when we do the radio cuts off and we weretrying to put the fuse in first then turn the radio on but nothing and the amp has no power. Does it need to be connected to a different fuse?

sounds like a possible grounding issue. Explain how the wiring is ran, hooked up, size ect........

I have an 8-gauge amp wiring kit that was installed by a local Ford dealer. The remote lead was connected to the fuse box but never worked right. Now it is connected to a wire behind the factory headunit that was recommended by audio store. So the amp and subs did work for awhile on this setup (amp power line and all). However after testing with ignition and radio off and on, the amp power light went off and hasn't came back on yet. Also the radio remains on after the keys are out and doors are closed and im outside the car. This only happens when the amp is connected to the battery (with the fuse in) and not when the fuse is out. This wire behind the head-unit seems to be the one so could I use a relay on the remote lead connection?

Fuse box is a good idea on most cars but i've heard of a recall or "campaign" as ford calls it with fuse box problems so i wouldn't tap in there, go behind the deck for a good acc power.
